Sandkytes

To the unwary traveller, the Kheperan sandkyte (or sandgup as they are more commonly known in Khepera where gup is the ancient Kheperan word for bird) can look like quite a monstrous creature but they are in fact incredibly placid, benign animals.  The sandkyte can swim through the Kheperan dunes with ease, assisted by a powerful tail and long legs that push through the sand under the surface of the dune.

These vast red animals are diamond-shaped and only a few inches thick which allows them to either slide over the sands or skim just beneath them.  A large black eye on the end of a long trunk allows the sandkyte to see when it is submerged.

The sandkyte also has two horns but will never use these aggressively.  The creatures tend to travel in families that can include as many as fifty members.
